Beyond the Obstacle

Beyond the Obstacles: Why I Travel the World — From Southern Africa to Europe, Qatar, and Beyond

By Lillie Bell Love Every journey begins with a dream, but not every dream is easy to chase. Traveling the world—especially to places as breathtaking and complex as South Africa, Botswana, Zimbabwe, Zambia, France, the UK, and Qatar—requires more than a passport and a suitcase. It takes courage, patience, and a deep love for humanity that pushes me beyond fear, fatigue, and the unexpected challenges that come with global exploration.

Yes, there are obstacles. There are visas to secure, long travel days, cultural adjustments, and moments of loneliness. But those challenges fade quickly in the presence of real connection—when I sit in conversation with a woman in Gaborone, hear traditional songs rise under African skies, or walk through the historic ruins of Great Zimbabwe. In Zambia, the roar of Victoria Falls reminds me of nature’s power. South Africa offers stories of struggle and triumph in equal measure. Each place leaves a mark on my spirit and fills my journal with living, breathing stories.

In France, I lose myself in art and language. In the UK, I find beauty in its layered history and quiet resilience. And then there’s Qatar—a place I once wandered with wonder, where modern architecture stretches toward the future while the desert holds memory and mystery. I still remember the warm nights, the generosity of the people, and the vibrant contrasts between old and new. Qatar was not just a stop—it was a chapter of clarity, reflection, and deep cultural richness.

Travel, for me, isn’t about ticking countries off a list. It’s about listening, learning, and leaning into the unfamiliar. It’s about discovering our shared humanity across borders. These experiences have shaped who I am and how I tell stories. They remind me that no matter where I go, there is always something sacred waiting to be heard.

With love and dusty boots,
